Cosmetic Bonding/Contouring: Bonding is a procedure in which a tooth colored material is applied to the tooth to restore or create a desired look. It can be used to repair many conditions including but not limited to decay, tooth fractures, and space closure.
Cosmetic/White Fillings for Children and Adults: Cavities destroy tooth structure. Once tooth decay has been removed by the dentist, the remaining void is filled with tooth colored filling material that can’t be seen when smiling and talking.
Crowns and Bridges: A broken tooth or one that has a large cavity present has lost its ability to function properly. Sometimes enough tooth structure has been destroyed that simply replacing the missing part with a filling is not an option. A crown is a tooth shaped “cap” that can restore the tooth’s shape, size, and strength. A bridge is essentially several crowns fused together to replace a missing tooth.
Dental Implants: A dental implant is an option for replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth. The implant itself is a titanium post placed in the site of the missing tooth or teeth. The implant is then restored with a crown. Implants can also be used to support and retain dentures.
Dentures/Partials and Extractions: Dentures and partials replace missing teeth and help give patients back their ability to perform simple functions such as speaking and eating. Implant technology has improved the fit and stability of dentures.
Digital X-rays: X-rays are a necessary part of diagnosing dental infections or pathology. Digital x-rays allow our office to use much less radiation than conventional x-rays. The digital process shows the dentist the image of the tooth within seconds of capturing the x-rays.
Oral Cancer Screenings: Oral or pharyngeal cancer will affect more than 37,000 Americans each year. Oral cancer is particularly dangerous because patients do not always experience symptoms during the early stages. Dr. Thurmond performs screenings at every preventive appointment to check high risk areas for this disease.
Preventive Cleanings: Preventive cleanings involve removing plaque (soft, sticky bacteria and food debris) and calculus deposits that can build up on teeth over time. If not removed, plaque and calculus will accumulate on the teeth and allow bacteria to thrive next to the gums and bone supporting the teeth. This accumulation can lead to the development of periodontitis, the destruction of these tooth supporting tissues.
Periodontal Evaluations and Deep Cleanings: Periodontitis involves the progressive loss of bone around the teeth. If not treated, it can lead to loosening and subsequent loss of teeth. At each preventive appointment, Dr. Thurmond or the hygienist will measure around each tooth to check for existing bone loss. If periodontitis has already occurred, a deep cleaning will be explained and recommended.
Root Canal Therapy: A root canal is a procedure used to repair a tooth that is badly decayed or has become infected. If a cavity is neglected, the bacteria in the cavity progress and reach the nerve and blood vessels inside the tooth. This may cause the tooth to become inflamed and painful. The root canal procedure removes the nerve and blood vessels, cleans the vacant canal, and seals the inside of the tooth. Without treatment, the tooth and surrounding tissues may become infected and abscess.
Sealants: Dental sealants are clear or white coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to help prevent cavities. They are typically placed on children and adolescents when their 6 and 12 year molars erupt through the gum surface.
Whitening: Dr. Thurmond offers The Kor Whitening Deep Bleaching System for patients hoping to brighten their smile through the whitening process. Whiter teeth can be achieved through an in-office procedure or wearing whitening trays at home. Call our office today to discuss which process works best for you. www.korwhitening.com
